How does Botox work?
Botox temporarily blocks the nerve endings to the facial muscles, relaxing them. By reducing muscle movement, the skin stops creasing and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften and fade away thus taking years off the person’s face.
Over time, with 3 – 6 monthly Botox® injections, occasional fillers and vitamins, the skin will maintain a natural, refreshed appearance.
How much Botox® do you need?
Each patient is different in the amount of Botox® required depending on the strength of the muscles, the thickness of the skin, the depth of the wrinkles, how expressive we are, our age, our lifestyle and on the result desired. Some people prefer to have a natural look others like to be frozen all year round. It is important to discuss this with your injector before hand to be sure to be happy with the outcome.
When do we need botox?
In the UK it is difficult to find a woman over the age of 25 who has never had Botox®. In 20-30 year olds Botox® is used to put off early aging signs to 40-45 years.
Anyone who hasn’t had Botox® by this time will have medium to deep wrinkles. Sun damage, stress and lifestyle have usually taken their toll and Botox® tends to have to be backed up by fillers. Regular treatments with advice as to skin care will be necessary to maintain a youthful look.
65 years plus
People in this age group find that if they started Botox® several years before that they are putting surgery off to much later in life or simply preventing the necessity for surgery at all and in other cases simply maintaining the results of a face lift with combination treatments of Botox®, filler, light therapy, peels etc.
